My teammate, Jeremy “Sherpa” Teela, now has a blog and he has been bothering me about linking to him everyday at practice… So here it is!  Check it out for an interesting read!  www.jeremyteela.com For those of you who are interested why Jeremy is called the “Sherpa”, he earned the name for his ability to hill [...]

Reader Tim Kelley alerted FasterSkier to an issue with street sweeping in Anchorage.  How does this relate to cross-country skiing?  If you have ever roller skied through a winter’s worth of sand on the shoulder, you know how big a deal this is.  Sandy shoulders can make roller skiing (as well as biking) more dangerous, especially in high use areas like Anchorage. An aticle and opinon piece in the Anchorage Daily News details the issue....

I discovered a new roller ski route close to my house today. I was even able to ski there from home! It's in the St. Anthony Park neighborhood of St. Paul, nestled between Hwy 280 and Como Ave. John Swain mentioned that he grew up there and would roller ski in the neighborhood so I thought I would check it out. It's a small area with little traffic and good terrain so it will be a nice place to do some intervals. There are a few hills that you can't go down, and I wouldn't recommend skiing there if you aren't really comfortable on skis because there are plenty of intersections to navigate, but it was fine for me. I'll have to work out the best route for an interval, but I think it has great potential. After experiencing some problems with his one of his knees, Petter Northug’s soccer career has come to an end. Earlier this summer, Petter Northug injured one of his knees, which worsened during a block of hard training, according to Norwegian national team coach Morten Aa Djupvik. He had symptoms during intervals last week, and then felt we needed to have studied this in a proper manner, Djupvik said to NRK, a Norwegian television station. Northug...

Now that I’ve been in Park City for over 2 weeks, I am feeling acclimated to the altitude and it feels great!!!  I have been working with the coaches almost every day (sometimes more than once a day) and I have definately made improvements in my technique.  I’m feeling stronger, faster and more efficient than [...]

Finnish ski star Virpi Kuitunen presented a unique idea for aiding in doping prevention – the implantation of a microchip under the skin, allowing anti-doping officials to constantly know the whereabouts of athletes.  Currently, athletes must routinely update a website with their current location, and any upcoming travel plans.  Mistakes or simple forgetfulness in this process can result in warnings, and ultimately, a “positive” test. The strict requirements have led many athletes to protest on...
