Ski Classics Penalty to Sandra Hansson: with VIDEO

FasterSkierFebruary 7, 20114

Ski Classics experienced a Fair Play incident in yesterdays König Ludwig Lauf on which Ski Classics will take action.

During the last kilometer in König Ludwig Lauf, the athletes Sandra Hansson and Seraina Boner, had an intense fight for the leading position in the women class. These so-called fights are a part of cross-country skiing ,however, in this particular fight  Sandra Hansson clearly blocked Seraina Boner on several occasions in an unfair way. It is stated in Ski Classics Rules Paragraph 8, that “All athletes participating in Ski Classics must act according to Fair Play”, hence Sandra Hansson’s behavior was in violation to this paragraph.

Ski Classics will reduce Sandra Hansson´s score in the Ski Classics Champion race with 30 points, and she will receive 70 points for König Ludwig Lauf instead of 100 points.

No adjustment will be made to Seraina Boners 80 points. Hence Seraina Boner is the new leader of Ski Classics Champion race.

Please note that this penalty only affects Ski Classics, and not  FIS Marathon Cup.

Ski Classics will continue to promote Fair Play in cross-country skiing, and strongly believe that this was a single isolated incident by Sandra Hansson.

Several debatable and several blatant skate stokes thrown in for good measure, including a couple V-1 that helped her get the winning gap. Good call by the officials.

I can say I saw the video before it was removed. Perhaps it was causing lots of upheaval. Pretty weird how Hannson was celebrating her victory afterwards. Hansson should hire the fired assistant from the NY Jets. He could have knocked down the Swiss skier Boner instead of Hansson trying to poke her eye out with her pole.

I saw it too. Some of the blocks may have not been as bad as they looked due to the camera foreshortening, but that was bizarrely blatant stuff. And yeah, the celebration at the end was weird too.

This is an interesting one. You can definitely see Sandra whack Seriana with her pole at :30. This might have been because Seriana was riding on the back of her skis. I don’t know about others but I consider this a no-no (looking at you BD). But even this looks to be Sandra’s fault as she jumped in right on top of her. Also later Sandra does look to do some blocking especially the part where she sidles right up next to Seriana out of the tracks, which is probably where Seriana got her arm stabbed with the pole.

Crazy. What do others think? This is like the Zapruder film.
