Job Title:  Head Coach – WinSport Junior Cross Country Ski Team

 

Reports to:  Sport Manager, Canmore

 

The WinSport Junior Cross Country Ski Team

WinSport, in collaboration with the Canmore Nordic Ski Club (CNSC), is seeking to hire a full time cross country ski coach for the newly formed WinSport Junior Cross Country Ski Team. This program is based out of the Bill Warren Training Centre at the Canmore Nordic Centre in Canmore, Alberta.  The successful candidate will possess extensive coaching, motivational and technical qualifications, complemented by strong communication and organizational skills.

The WinSport Junior XC Ski Team is a year round program for cross country skiers in the Learn to Compete and early Train to Compete stage of development, and racing in the Junior Men’s or Women’s and young Senior Men’s and Women’s categories.  The athletes will have completed high school.  The goal of the Junior Team is to provide top quality training and racing opportunities specific to athletes in this stage of development with the goal that these athletes will progress to a Cross Country Canada National Development Centre.

 

Scope of Position

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate  with Canmore Nordic Ski Club Program Director and Winsport’s Sport Manager  in designing annual training and competition plans
  • Create and implement Yearly Training Plans (YTP) for a 12 month program including all phases (preseason, postseason, comp season) and must include but not limited to physical, physiological and tactical training for the appropriate stage of development of each individual athlete
  • Build a sustainable team as per the Long Term Athlete Development Model
  • Complete bi-annual evaluations for all Junior XC Ski Team athletes
  • Provide technical  coaching and lead domestic competitive tours
  • In coordination with other WinSport Teams Academy , coordinate athlete support services including sport science, sport medicine and technical support
  • Provide timely and effective communication to athletes and other support personnel regarding scheduling and training
  • Work with WinSport Academy coordinator for all admin and logistics
  • Update social media specifically regarding athletes training environment and performances to promote awareness and team successes
  • Communication: all emails, phone calls and conversations must be delivered with the utmost professional and diplomatic attitude meeting the standard of WinSport
  • Execution of Duty of Care as outlined by WinSport is a maximum expectation. While on the road, in the gym or at your home venue, the athletes well being is priority.  It is your legal responsibility as a coach
  • Positively collaborate with Cross Country Alberta, Cross Country Canada, National Development Centre and cross country ski clubs
  • Provide weekly updates to WinSport with timely reports about the progress of the season
  • Liaison with the program’s educational counsellor on issues relating to school and/or work
  • Any other duties as required

 

Qualifications/Skills            

  • Certified at level 3 in the NCCP program or equivalent
  • Experience in coaching at the national and or international level with the proven ability to deliver the following key components of the program: technique, physiology, psychology and health management
  • Must be dedicated to high performance excellence using innovative methods in delivering training sessions
  • Proven ability to motivate and gain the trust and confidence of high performance athletes
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational expertise
  • Proven skills as a great team leader
  • Ability to work with other coaches and support personnel
  • Alberta Drivers License to drive a team van
  • Excellent skills in race support including state of the art waxing services
  • Strong communication and liaising skills
  • Strong time management skills
  • Strong administrative skills

 

Salary will be based on qualifications and experience.
