FasterSkier is excited to introduce you to our new associate editor, Lander Karath, and if the name sounds familiar — you’re probably a regular to the site.

Lander’s been part of the FS team since last fall, joining us as an intern and taking on a host of responsibilities, including reporting and writing, while pursuing a degree at Middlebury College in Vermont.

Born in Boulder, Colo., and raised in Bozeman, Mont., Lander was practically a toddler when he started skiing with the Bridger Ski Foundation (BSF) Youth Ski League. At age 10, he joined the BSF Development Team and began a junior career of competing both nationally and internationally, including multiple Junior Nationals, SuperTours, and U.S. and Canadian nationals.

Co-valedictorian of his senior class, Lander graduated Bozeman High in 2010 and ventured East to Middlebury. Mononucleosis derailed his freshman ski season, but Lander returned to the Middlebury Ski Team in 2011/2012 as a sophomore. As a junior, he left skiing and school to work as a field organizer for the Obama campaign in Edwards, Colo. He returned to school in the spring of 2013, studying abroad at the Università degli Studi di Firenze in Florence, Italy.

This coming winter, Lander will graduate from Middlebury with a degree in International Politics and Economics, and a minor in U.S. History. He’ll remain an integral part of FasterSkier’s staff in the meantime.

“Back in Bozeman for the time being, I now spend my days writing, hiking, and doing as many adventures as possible in the breathtaking mountains of Montana,” Lander says. “As of now, I hope to eventually pursue a career in political journalism. I greatly enjoyed the work I took part in this past year as FasterSkier’s intern, and I am thrilled and honored to continue working in the cross-country skiing community as FasterSkier’s Associate Editor.”
