Conditions were excellent with world class courses stitched together from a blend of man-made and natural snow.

Classic Sprint

Cold temperatures and hard tracks greeted racers in the opening event of the championship. On the men’s side, perennial sprinter and former USST member, Torin Koos took another national title with the help of Swix Triac poles. He was followed closely by Sun Valley’s Michael Sinnott and Bend Endurance Academy’s Dakota Blackhorse-von Jess. On the women’s side, the combined efforts of Rosie Brennan and Sadie Bjornsen, both of the Swix-sponsored APU nordic team weren’t enough to unseat CXC’s Jennie Bender who took the finish in a dramatic final push. Bjornsen and Brennan finished second and third, respectively. click to read more. http://www.swixracing.us/nordic/

All In: Andy Newell

Newell

Longtime US Team member, Andy Newell is fun to watch. Athletic and cagey in racing, the sprinter has posted numerous top ten finishes this season in freestyle sprints and his career best distance results. On Saturday in a World Cup classic event in Liberec CZE, Newell notched his strongest classic sprint finish in three seasons, a sixth place in an aggressive final heat. Newell wasn’t completely pleased with the strong result that came after his qualifying position put him in the last quarterfinal: a very short turnaround to recover before the last showdown of the day, “It’s frustrating not to be on the podium having made three finals this year,” he explained. Look for the Swix-sponsored sprinter to return to a World Cup sprint podium spot soon in the weeks to come.
