Head Ski Coach for the University of Maine at Presque Isle

7 Month Temporary Position (Sept 1st to March 31st)

Position Summary & Responsibilities:

The head ski coach is responsible for the direction of the men’s and women’s skiing programs, adhering to NCAA rules and regulations and providing technical expertise to maximize performance of team members.  The head coach will also be responsible for all recruiting efforts in bringing in quality student-athletes and meeting roster sizes to fulfill sports sponsorship requirements.

Essential Duties:

  1. Coach, teach, and advance athletes during practice, race, and in the pursuit of academic excellence.
  2. Recruit quality student-athletes that can compete at the NCAA level as well as meeting roster sizes that fulfill sports sponsorship requirements.
  3. Coordinate with the Admissions Office and Recruitment and Retention Coordinator with recruiting efforts.
  4. Manage and adhere to the ski team’s budget.
  5. Assist the athletic director in planning, supervising, and implementing the ski program.
  6. Collaborate with Communication Relations and Media Office and the Sports Information Director in the preparation of press releases and arrangement of media coverage.
  7. Maintain up to date knowledge of NCAA, FIS, and USSA rules and regulations.

Reporting Relationship(s):

This position will report directly to the Athletic Director.

Coordinates With:

This position will coordinate with different colleagues in athletics for a number of different reasons including: Athletic Director, Assistant Athletic Director, Sports Information Director, Compliance Officer, Facilities/Equipment Director, and the Recruitment and Retention Coordinator.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position will supervise the assistant ski coach.

Working Conditions:

With the nature of skiing this position may find themselves working in very cold and tough weather conditions. This position will include driving for multiple hours at a time to transport teams to their races as well as loading and unloading materials into university vehicles.

Work Schedule:

The work schedule may vary from week to week, with the bulk of the work occurring during the traditional ski season.  This position will be expected to work some long nights and weekends dependent on the ski team’s race schedule and location of those races.

Qualifications: 

Required:

  1. Ability to write, direct, and monitor individualized training plans that are safe and productive in the growth and development for collegiate skiers.
  2. Working knowledge of ski preparation for a college ski team, including picking skis, testing wax and structure, and ride day ski preparation.
  3. The ability to recruit and retain quality student-athletes.
  4. Good oral and written communication skills.
  5. Valid Driver’s License and be an authorized and approved University Driver based on the Driver Administration Policy.
  6. Outgoing, positive, professional manner.
  7. Ability to load, unload, transport and assemble materials.

Preferred:

  1. Collegiate or elite club level coaching experience.
  2. USSA, CCC, or NENSA Coaches certification

Stipend amount for this position is $12,000 with the possibility of on-campus housing.
