New Birkie Ambassador, Brooks Going for FIS Marathon Cup Overall Podium (Updated)

It’s final. Holly Brooks is tackling the FIS Marathon Cup/Worldloppet series this season, with seven of nine races on her schedule and a goal of an overall top three. “I’m ready for new challenges,” she says. “I’m a competitor and I want to be in races where I’m in contention for a podium.” As the Birkie’s first elite-athlete representative, she’s hoping that will simplify some of the international logistics.

The Green Mountain Valley School is welcoming back former junior athlete David Sinclair to the team’s ranks for the 2014/2015 season as part of the team’s attempt at organic development. With several exciting developments for the rural Vermont academy including a new assistant coach, the future is looking bright for GMVS.

Fletcher Soars to First National Title in Lake Placid

Bryan Fletcher earned his first national title Oct. 12 at the U.S. Ski Jumping and Nordic Combined National Championships in Lake Placid. Now Fletcher and the rest of the U.S. Nordic Combined team will head to Switzerland for a European training block before the World Cup begins Nov. 29.

Jackson Ski Touring Announces New Leadership, Programs & National Ski Patrol Affiliation

For the first time in nearly four decades, Jackson Ski Touring Foundation has a new leader. Breanne Torrey, who has been with the organization for six years and has held the positions of Head of Ski Patrol and Director of Operations, has been named the Foundation’s new Executive Director. She is the first woman in this role and follows former Executive Director Thom Perkins, who retired in the spring of 2014 after 38 years with the organization.

Top nordic skiers from around the country converged on Park City, Utah in early October for the U.S. Ski Team and National Elite Group altitude camps. While the NEG camp concluded Oct. 12, the USST is continuing to train in Utah until later this month.
