The month of April is usually the recovery month for most high level skiers. May is when the same skiers officially start their preparation toward the upcoming season. Skidsport.com of Sweden announced on May 2 that “the season started yesterdayâ€, while sprint World Cup winner Marit Bjorgen was quoted in Norwegian newspaper VG on May 1, saying: “we are now resuming full normal training. My goal is sprint gold and sprint relay gold in Oberstdorf Worldsâ€.Â
April was when those who kicked butt and reached their goals took a well deserved break to recharge the batteries to get ready for next seasons training. On the flip side, April was also a month where those who didn’t reach their goals were so excited about next season that they took a shorter break. They were eager to work on technical details, sought out information from new sources and mentally outlined next seasons training and goals.

Bjorn Daehlie described in his book ‘The Hunt For Gold†what he did in April one year when the Norwegian National Team sponsor sent the whole team to Thailand. He was so focused about getting going toward next season that he found an uphill behind the hotel and did running intervals every morning before breakfast. No one else did that (and no one else has won as many gold’s).

Marit Bjorgen was, on April 30, observed at a soccer practice with her old team. She ended her soccer carrier ten years ago.

“It was fun to do some alternative training like soccer, fishing, sea rafting and other social fun with my friends from the national team, but now it’s time to get going again,” said Bjorgen.

She is planning on doing pretty much the same training as last year.

“I can feel the pressure and have big expectations to myself, but I don’t feel it’s realistic to win the overall World Cup. I would be happy with a top three,” said Marit.
