Jackson Hole Ski & Snowboard Club Seeks Comp Team Coach

The Jackson Hole Ski & Snowboard Club is seeking a Comp Team (U16-U20) Nordic Coach for the 2019/20 season and into the future. This is a full-time, career level position that requires a high level of involvement, coaching expertise, enthusiasm and love of the sport.

JHSC Mission Statement:

To inspire and develop student-athletes through innovative and accessible ski and snowboard programs that provide opportunities to pursue personal excellence in snow-sports and life.

JHSC Nordic Mission Statement:

To teach commitment and reward independence and responsibility, self-control and motivation, using increasingly higher level competitive skiing as the classroom, and the coaches and teammates as mentors. Because it takes such an investment in time and demands such a large degree of self-awareness, Nordic skiing is the perfect vehicle with which to learn these lessons.

Comp Team Goals:

Athletes understand all aspects of training from general and specific strength, to aerobic capacity and threshold training to the continued work or technique training, mental toughness, rest and recovery and the importance of keeping a training log. Training is partially based on individual needs determined by physical testing, competition records and personal goals. At this level, athletes begin to understand that the demands of the sport require them to embody a certain lifestyle.

Overview:

In alignment with the mission of JHSC, the Comp team Coach is responsible for implementing the comp team goals, assisting with designing the training plan with the Nordic Program Director/Head Coach, leading and evaluating the athletes, and developing student-athletes through a comprehensive long-term-athlete-development Nordic Ski racing program.

Qualifications:

  • USS Level 200 or the ability to obtain Level 200

  • Ability to be a strong team player with proven leadership skills

  • Experience working with junior athletes

  • Excellent relationship and communication skills – working closely with coaches/parents/athletes and community partners

Requirements:

  • Equipment management (team roller skis, lease skis, service/waxing knowledge)

  • Coordinate a consistent athlete evaluation process in coordination with Program Director

  • Attend all JHSC community work days and fundraising events

  • This a leadership position at JHSC and in the community, professional standards and relations must be maintained at all times when representing JHSC.

  • Travel to JNQs and other regional and national races

  • Assist in the operation of local sanctioned and non-sanctioned races (typically 3-6 per year)

  • 2-3 hrs per day of administrative and organizational work outside of training.

  • The Comp team coach is a full-time position, June 1- March 31 with 6-8 training sessions, June- October and 5-6 sessions November-March.
