Biathlon skiers Ole Einar Bjorndalen and Lars Berger are among the four athletes selected to race for Norway in the men’s 15-kilometer freestyle race on day one at Worlds in Oberstdorf on Thursday. Marit Bjorgen also decided to get going, and is racing the opening day, 10-kilometer freestyle for women.

Bjorndalen did not race well in Saturday’s World Cup 15-kilometer freestyle race in Reit im Winkl and ended up in 40th place, 1 minute and 50 seconds behind the winner. It’s reported that he struggled with stomach pain due to a stomach virus, got treatment at a German hospital and has felt back to normal the last few days.

The big surprise is that Kristen Skjeldal which placed 4th in Saturday’s race, only 1 second from second placed was not selected to race.

Berger did not race on Saturday; Ruud Hofstad was 33rd and Jan Egil Andresen 59th.

Norway’s team for day 1:

Women’s 10km freestyle:
Marit Bjœrgen
Kristin Stœrmer Steira
Kristin Mürer Stemland
Kine Beate BjœrnÃ¥s

Men’s 15km freestyle:
Ole Einar Bjœrndalen
Tore Ruud Hofstad
Jan Egil Andresen
Lars Berger
