Commentary with Matt Whitcomb

The New Zealand on-snow footage with Liz comes from a threshold session. Liz does a fine job keeping a controlled intensity effort in actually very steep terrain. Notice how Liz is light on her feet and moves side to side very efficiently with the legs. Notice the shallow compression so she doesn’t end up working too hard during this workout – maybe I’d like to see a little more – but maybe that’s not possible while keeping the workout always in threshold.
She even tries of make a move on Kris Freeman here.
The rollerskiing footage comes from a Vo2 Max session up Whiteface Mountain. I like the upper body compression I’m seeing in Liz. Also, notice Liz’s body position, and the sharpness of her shin angle. I wouldn’t mind seeing Liz get a little more weight transfer from time to time, but all in all it’s quite good. In sessions like this, we talk technique after every four minute interval. I try to give her immediate feedback. We talk about what I’m seeing and what she may be feeling about her skiing, both the positives we want to keep rolling, and also the area to focus in on during the next interval.
