Sunday Rundown: Beitostølen 10 k/15 k; Bruksvallarna Sprints

FIS cross-country Beitostølen, Norway: 10 k/15 k freestyle

The FIS Beitostølen cross-country races came to a close on Sunday November, 18 with a men’s 15-kilometer freestyle race and a women’s 10 k skate.

Norwegian Sjur Røthe won the men’s 15 k, covering the course in a time of 33:45.7. Røthe’s Norwegian teammate Simen Hegstad Krüger, finished 11.1 seconds back in second place.

Taking  third place on Sunday was another Norwegian, Martin Johnsrud Sundby. Sundby finished seven tenths of a second behind Krüger and 11.8 seconds back from Røthe.

Andrew Musgrave of Great Britain placed seventh on Sunday (+1:07.8) while his teammate, Andrew Young placed 11th (+1:11.8).

American and U.S. Ski Team (USST) member, Scott Patterson, placed 22nd (+1:45.2) just ahead of Canadian Russell Kennedy, who finished in 24th (+1:53.2). Canadians Maks Zechel and Brian McKeever placed 85th (+4:07.5) and 91st, respectively.

On the women’s side, Norway’s Therese Johaug won the 10 k event in a time of 24:21.5. Another Norwegian, Ingvild Flugstad Østberg, finished 26 seconds behind Johaug for second place. The USST’s Sadie Bjornsen placed third (+1:45.9).

Bjornsen was the only North American woman to enter the Beitostølen 10 k on Sunday.

FIS cross-country Bruksvallarna, Sweden: 1.4 k freestyle sprints

In Bruksvallarna, Sweden races convened for a men’s and women’s 1.4-kilometer freestyle sprint. Winning the women’s qualifier in a time of 2:55.84, was swedish skier, Hanna Falk. Falk went on the win the final event, finishing ahead of her Swedish teammates Maja Dahlqvist and Stina Nilsson in second and third respectively.

No North American women competed in the Bruksvallarna 1.4 k freestyle sprints on Sunday.

In the men’s 1.4 k sprint in Bruksvallarna, Victor Thorn of Sweden won the qualifier in a time of 2:53.19. The final, however, went to Sweden’s Teodor Peterson. Behind Peterson in the final for second place was Sweden’s Karl-Johan Westberg followed up by Thorn in third.
