After capturing Gold in eight consecutive Olympic and World Championships, Thomas Alsgaard (31) is now making his debut in World Cup Rally Cross — car racing on dirt roads. His goal is to avoid getting last place.

The competition takes place in Jyveskyla, Finland and includes racing in the dark through the night. Each driver has a map-reader and Thomas is racing in a borrowed Mitsubishi.

For Thomas this is realizing a boy-hood dream.

Thomas qualified by capturing a 12th place in a recent Norway Cup race and now want to see how far he can take his new sport domestically.

Internationally he realizes that he is starting 20 years too late — “trying to be best in the World at this point is like starting XC skiing now, at my age.”

One thing is for sure — this guy is a competitor that likes to win!
