Week With High Training Volume Concludes Canadian Team’s Park City Camp

FasterSkier · September 29, 2003

The Canadian Cross Country National Team ended their three week training camp in Park City, Utah on Sunday September 28th with a high volume week.

A 7 hour long bike ride and a 6 hour hike were on the agenda for those who did the longest option on both long days.

Each individual decided how long they wanted to make these days and a few of the guys did the entire bike ride. They started in Evanston, Wyoming, went up a big 2+ hour climb to Bald Mountain on Mirror Lake Highway, and then back down the other side to the camp headquarters in Deer Valley/Park City, Utah. A nice (but) tough ride.

Fasterskier.com joined the team for hill-bounding/ski striding intervals w/poles near the Mountain Dell reservoir on Saturday. Two to four minute long intervals were on the agenda, at hard to very hard efforts.

For some this was the first interval session of the week while others had done some more hard training.

A long distance rollerski session was on the agenda for Sunday (the last camp day) followed by an afternoon session with a round of golf at one of the areas numerous very good golf courses.

“10,000? — Okay, not quite, but some people have asked about it!”

“Well it would be hard to come up with a name that would be as good as Nordic Nudes… We’ll think about it”

A Few more questions for Dave:

Q: You are not planning on participating at the World Cup opener at Beitostolen, Norway?

“Our experience has been that the trip get a little too long if we participate in all the pre- Christmas races. Other teams can go home in between races, we can’t We have to look at the entire World Cup season and make trips that are reasonably long. Some of the skiers also have a harder time with jet-lag inScandinavia due to the shorter, darker days.”

Q: Any plans to make a coaches follow up to the very successful Nordic Nudes Calendar a few years ago — like Canadian Nude Nordic Coaches?

“NO – I don’t think it would sell well.”
