Pedersen Is Not Training Like The Rest Of The Team

“I have been training as in previous years. I have felt that this has been the right way of doing things for me. I did not want to make changes in my training since this is my last season regardless. I chose to play it safeâ€
She feels that “her way†has worked well for her. The proof can be seen in last year’s results. The rest of the girls are doing block periodization in a way that has not been common for (Norwegian) cross country skiers. The changes have caused lots of media attention, especially around the periods where the team is doing lots of hard sessions.
“It’s not as extreme as it sounds like. Our training as a total not that different†says Pedersen
She has been able to do most of the other women’s workouts at camps.
“They did one extreme camp this summer that I did not participate in. I took part in all the other camps and did the hard sessions along with the other girlsâ€
What do you feel about Sandal’s new philosophy?
“I think it’s very positive. This is the right season to test it out in, however it’s too early to say what kind of effect it has hadâ€.
Pedersen herself is constantly working to improve details in her technique and training routines. She has noticed that (at this age) she now needs a little bit more rest and recovery than in the past.
“The advantage by being older is that I have more routine, knows my body well and is more independentâ€.
Pedersen is racing Saturday’s World Cup at Beitostolen — watch out!
