La Sgambeda Kicks Off FIS Marathon Cup

The FIS Marathon Cup season gets underway on Sunday the 14th with La Sgambeda Ski Marathon in Livigno, Italy.


In the starting list there is also a Czech athlete Stanislav Rezac, a Spaniard Juan Jesus Gutierrez and the Ukrainian Oleksiy Dushyn. There are also top Swedish racers Henrik Eriksson, Staffan Larsson and Daniel Tynell, the last two having won the Vasaloppet. From Russia there are 4 athletes, Leonid Boshakov, Leonid Golubkov, Vassili Iline and Dmitry Krichevsky.

Starting with the number 1 on his back will be Maurizio Pozzi, winner of the past edition, while wearing number 2 is Aukland because he won the FIS Marathon Cup last year. Returning to granfondo is Pierluigi Costantin and also taking part are the ski roll champions, Stefano Cordoni and Mirco Collavo.

Enjoying the excellent snow conditions are the top Norwegian skiers who have chosen Livigno for their training: Anders Aukland, Frode Estil, Jens Arne Svartedal and  Odd-Bjoern Hjelmeset together with their colleague Tina Bay who are taking part in a stage of the World Cup at Davos which will be the same day as La Sgambeda.

Like the  Norwegians also the Italian Marco Albarello has chosen Livigno as his training ground  to get ready for the World Cup: The national team have chosen the Alta Valtellina after leaving Dobbiaco where they had taken part for 2 days in the World Cup stage.

The programme for La Sgambeda is rich and sees a convention on the theme of Nordic ski marathons starting on Friday night, but we can only give you information about this at the last minute. Stay tuned!
