Two Bronze Medals to Canada
The Soldier Hollow sprint course is a “solid piece of work†with one long gradual uphill right after the start, one short steep uphill with 600 meters to go and one gradual fifty meter long uphill right before the last 150 meters which is flat.
The Norwegian team of Oyestein Solbjorg and Borre Naess (Silver in the individual skate sprint) took the victory in an incredible exciting battle against Italy and Canada. It was never more than ten meters that separate those three teams for the entire race.
Switzerland, Spain and a “bunch†of other teams were skiing only 20-40 meters behind the leaders making it impossible for the leading trio to “even think about slowing downâ€.
Naess on the Norwegian Team was number three out of the stadium on the last leg, but skied side by side with Canada’s Drew Goldsack up the first uphill. Naess made a move up the steep uphill with 600 meters too go and captured the lead gliding down toward the stadium. Naess which recently placed 5th(won the B- final) in the Norwegian sprint Championship “dominated†the last 200 meters and won by 2 seconds.
Oyestein Sobjorg, the other skier on the Norwegian team placed 7th in their pursuit Championship a few weeks ago. The quality of the skiers at this championship is very high.
Italy got ahead of Canada for second. Aggressive and impressive skiing by the Canadians.
