Miami, Florida (NTB): Holmenkollen, Norway lost out to Liberec of the Czech Republic for the 2009 Nordic Worlds. Liberec won in their seventh attempt.
The decision was not a big surprise said Norwegian Ski Federation’s president, Sverre Seeberg.
Liberec has been voted down in their six previous attempts by the FIS-congress, but finally succeeded last Friday night. Holmenkollen might now apply to get the 2011 World Championship event.
– We feel that we have done a good job and should be able to say that we have got a good start on an application process that now has been extended. Very few applicants are awarded a championship the first time they apply says Seeberg.
The FIS made the decision during the recent congress in Miami, Florida. Liberec beat Holmenkollen with 11 votes to 4.
