Trial Ends for Doping Scandal Coach

The trial of former head ski coach Kari-Pekka Kyrö has ended in a
Vantaa court. The verdict will be announced next Thursday.

Kyrö is charged with smuggling illegal growth hormones from the
Netherlands for use by the Finnish Ski Team. He's also charged with perjury.

The perjury charges relate to a trial in which Kyrö sued the Finnish
News Agency for reporting his involvement in the doping scandal. He insisted
in that trial that he was innocent, and won his slander case.

State Prosecutor Pekka Koponen is seeking a suspended sentence. Kyrö's
defence team argued that the prosecution's evidence was circumstantial.
