Second From Last In Düsseldorf

I’m Feeling Good And Has Never Been Better.

Norwegian national team skier Vibeke Skofterud disappointed big time in the recent World Cup sprint race in Düsseldorf, Germany and ended up second to last in the prolog. She feels that despite this result that she is fitter and in better shape than ever.

Her highest months have been up towards 86 hours. She is now planning on resuming normal training toward the national opening races at Beitostolen the second weekend of November.

– I’m not “letting up” before Beitostolen. I consider those three races training, explains Skofterud.

– I want to show that I’m in good shape and ski well in the World Cup races the weekend after Beitostolen, but I’m not letting up more than a little bit in the training, just enough to feel good adds Vibeke.

Skofterud has raced World Cup for several years but never won a World Cup race. She wants to change that fact this winter.

– First of all I want a World Cup victory, she says. Next she is counting on placing top six to seven on the overall World Cup list. She also has goals for Worlds in Oberstdorf.

-Gold in the relay would be nice. I hope to be good enough to make the relay team, but I’m not thinking too much about that yet.

She also hopes for two top-six in individual races at Worlds. It doesn’t matter in which event, she says.

Last season was tough for Vibeke, but most has gone her way and worked well this summer and fall. She had shoulder surgery this spring and the shoulder has not bothered her the last two to three months. The only training brake this summer was one week due to a cold.

– The most important in the next period is to stay healthy, says Skofterud.

She is leaving for the next national team camp on Tuesday and will be dryland training at home until then.
