Anders Aukland, classic specialist, the 2004 Swedish Vasaloppet winner, World Cup winner and a member of the Norwegian national team has performed well below expectations so far this season. He is struggling with a virus that appears and acts like mononucleosis.

He would have liked to have been without this extra long Christmas break
 – At the moment I’m not able to race. I have been able to train relatively normal, but I have to back off and take it easy at the moment. We’ll take some new tests in a while to see if the virus is gone. I’m still motivated to ski fast and am hoping for some luck. I’m optimistic and have a good medical team to help me, says Aukland.
He has not given up on this season.
 – I’m not going around thinking about losing the rest of the season. I’m positive and hopeful that it might turn around. My goal is still Worlds in Oberstdorf, says Anders.
