The 1st Annual Therapeutic Associates Youth XC Ski Festival and Cascade Crest Tour, presented by The Center, On The Way Bike & Ski Shop & Unicel, will take place March 18 — 20, 2005. The entire weekend will be filled with ski racing and ski related events for cross-country skiers of all ages and abilities.
The Therapeutic Associates Youth XC Ski Festival will include races, awards, raffle prizes and wax-clinics for skiers age 13 and under. There will also be a Nordic terrain park/ obstacle course, screaming downhill competition and a banquet on Saturday night.
Youth Festival entry fees are $55 until March 16 and $65 after March 16. Late registration will be Friday, March 18 from noon to 5 p.m. in the Fireside Room at Mt. Bachelor Village Resort, 19717 Mt. Bachelor Drive, 800-547-5204. No registration will be available after Friday. A coaches meeting is scheduled for 8 p.m. in the Fireside Room at Mt. Bachelor Village. Bib packet pick-up will be available Friday, March 18, 12 — 5 p.m. at Mt Bachelor Village Resort. Also, Saturday, March 19 and Sunday, March 20 from 7:30 – 8:30 a.m. at the Mt. Bachelor Nordic Center parking lot.
The Cascade Crest Tour is Sunday, March 20 at 9 a.m. This is a 15km or 25km Freestyle race for Masters, Seniors and older juniors. The Cascade Crest course gives skiers a once a year opportunity to cruise through areas of the Deschutes National Forest that are not normally groomed. MBSEF is able to provide this event with a special use permit from the U.S. Forest Service.
Cascade Crest bib packet pick up and late registration is 7:30 – 8:30 a.m. in the Mt. Bachelor Nordic Center parking lot. Cascade Crest entry fees are $20 until March 16 and $25 after March 16. Race information and entry forms are available at www.mbsef.org.
In 2006 and 2007 the Festival will coincide with the National Masters XC Ski Championships. Information on the National Masters can be found at www.xcskiworld.com.
Volunteers are needed for both the youth and tour events. If you wish to volunteer on March 18, 19, or 20 you will receive an Alpine day pass or two Nordic day passes. The Therapeutic Associates XC Youth Festival and the Cascade Crest Tour will be held on Mt. Bachelor Nordic Center trails and are a fundraiser for MBSEF. Event proceeds support race-training programs and keep program costs down for MBSEF Masters, Junior and Youth skiers.
