Christina Paluselli from Italy won the women’s title and Stanislav Rezac from The Czech Republic won the men’s race in Sunday’s 70-kilometer Marcialonga classic marathon.

The hard snow caused lots of kick wax wear and slippery skis. Many skiers chose for that reason to apply more kick wax at the bottom of the last long and step uphill. None of the top ten skiers however chose to stop.

Norwegian hope, Jorgen Aukland did not race. The Norwegian Team Intersport/National marathon Team had a number of skiers in the lead group but they struggled up the last hill and Anders Hallingstad was their top skier in 9th place, 1 minute and 18 seconds behind the winner.

Giantonio Zanetel was second in the men’s race, 8 seconds behind Rezac and Marco Cattaneo in third was 31 seconds behind.

Christina Palusselli of Italy won her second FIS marathon cup race in a row and now stands with two first and one second for the season and is leading the cup. Lara Peyrot also of Italy was second, 3 minutes and 14 seconds behind. Daria Gaiazova of Canada was third, 23 minutes and 55 seconds behind Paluselli and Madeline Williams also of Canada was fourth.
