The organizers in Drammen, Norway started trucking in the snow to cover the streets that will be used for Wednesday’s sprint World Cup on Monday. The course will be completed on Tuesday and this town is ready for a huge sprint party!
The sprint has a budget of roughly 4 million kroner or about 650.000 US dollars. 350 volunteers are helping out. Most of them are from the local club Konnerud.
– We are trucking in 3000 cubic of man-made snow and 1000 cubic of crushed ice. The ice helps us save money since it is faster to produce and is a shorter distance to transport, says Kihle.
40,000 spectators showed up last year. There might be more this year.
The weather forecast is very promising. It calls for sunshine and 0 Celcius/32 Fahrenheit.
– It will be a guaranteed spectator party. I haven’t talked to anyone yet in this town that won’t come and watch this race. It’s going to be very exciting. You won’t experience a better spectator-party-atmosphere than here in Drammen, says Geirr Kihle
