Cross Country Alaska Announces Spring Summit

FasterSkierApril 5, 2005

The 2005 CCAK Spring Summit, at Alaska Pacific University, is scheduled for Friday April 15, 6:30pm to 8:30pm, and Saturday April 16, 2005 9 am to 4 pm.

Location: Carr Gottstein Building, Veco Board Room, on the APU Campus.

The forum Friday evening, of particular interest to parents, will be used to gather ideas and concerns regarding the sport of cross country skiing in Alaska. The work Saturday will be to focus the ideas and concerns into action items to be addressed in the annual the CCAK meeting in May, TBA.

As a result of discussion at the fall 2004 meeting regarding the status of CCAK, the need for broader based participation in the organization was identified. This led to a proposal to invite the entire xc community to a summit in 2005.

Topics proposed included: Athlete development, coaches education, officials training, support for race organizers. Proposals, presentations, working groups are welcome and CCAK is open to more ideas.

Particular concerns include how to better prepare the junior athletes for the competitions, build a strong development system in the region for athletes interested in competing nationally and internationally, youth ski program development, review and revamping of the JO/AWG selection process that will dovetail better with the USSA NRL ranking / selection criteria.

Please pass this message on to your club members, teams, parents, coaches, and anyone you feel would be interested in the process.

More information will be made available on the CCAK web site, and a point of contact is the APU Nordic Ski Center office.
