CXC Coach Symposium Summary

FasterSkierMay 27, 2005

The 2005 CXC Cross Country Ski Coach’s Symposium brought 56 coaches from Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan and Utah together for a weekend of classes and discussion. Eight speakers presented a variety topics on almost all aspects of training, waxing and team/club management. This is the first and very important step in Coaches Education this season. Following will be inaugural issues of the CXC Coach’s Newsletter (3 times a year) and CXC Training Manual (coming in the fall). Both printed documents will be distributed at no charge to CXC member coaches and available for sale at selected regional locations. CXC strongly believes that a coach’s specific ski education is an instrumental part of athlete development and athlete’s education as well.

A few comments from coach’s critiques and suggestions include;
• “The strength of the symposium was the variety of topics presented covering primary issues facing most HS/JR coaches.”
• “I think I took 25 pages of notes over the weekend! There were great discussions and I met a whole new group of coaches I never knew previously. I am encouraging other coaches in our program to attend next year too.”
CXC would like to express appreciation to Cresthill Resort and the Sawmill Saloon for their logistical support of this event.

CXC will schedule Coaches Symposiums each year in May. Additional coaches education programs will be included in the Regional Elite Group Camp in June, the CXC/Birkie Big Summer Camp at Telemark Resort in August, and the Fall Open Camp in September.
