Swedish World Cup star Mathias Fredriksson is still struggling with the Twar Bacteria and is afraid that the illness will crush his dream about an Olympic medal in his last Olympics. Chlamydia pneumoniae (TWAR) is a recently recognized third species of the genus Chlamydia that causes acute respiratory disease.

Fredriksson struggled with the bacteria illness already during Oberstdorf Worlds and went through a long antibiotic cure after Worlds. The infection came back this spring and again caused problems for the 32-year old.

– I have had the same symptoms as during Worlds. My body has not been able to function at all, says Fredriksson to the Swedish newspaper Expressen http://expressen.se/index.jsp?d=110&a=424698

This has obviously disturbed the skier’s summer training.

– I don’t think I have ever trained as poorly in June and July as this year. It has been far away from the quality I wanted, says Fredriksson to the newspaper

He has since the doctors haven’t been able to help, started using alternative medicine (birosonans treatment) and it looks like this has helped.

– I have been able to train as normal since the beginning of August, says the Swede who hopes that the bacteria won’t ruin his Olympic season
