Coach Jon Arne Schjetne has an interval-oriented philosophy Using A Samdal-Like Plan http://www.fasterskier.com/training2360.html

This was the team’s first camp with focus on training with high intensity
The national team skiers have up until now done intensity blocks on their own. This was the athletes second high intensity block this season. They did the first one in July. Some will do another one later this fall.

– The skiers were able to train as hard as we had planned and everyone handled it well. Feedback indicated that some thought it should have been harder than it was, says Schjetne.

The coach feels that his team is looking solid.

– It’s looking very good now. The camp confirmed that things are functioning well. The team’s top skiers are Marte Elden and Petter Northug, but the coach isn’t afraid that the gap down to rest of the team is too big.

– Petter has been matched by some of the other skiers. Marte is very good in running, and is running away from the rest in hard running workouts, that’s why we do some hard sessions as mass-start so she can run with the boys, says Schjetne.

He has noted that Elden has prioritized cross country skiing over track running this summer.

– She has definitely improved another notch, says Jon Arne.
