The Swedish national team has struggled at the beginning of the season, but the 30-kilometer classic in Canmore last week gave signals that something is about to change. Mathias Fredriksson was one of the most active skiers in the front of the lead pack.

— I have felt ok in training, but something has been lacking in order to win World Cup races.

— The 30-kilometer reflects pretty well on my physical shape at the moment, says Fredriksson.

– To be able to ski at the front all the way to the finish in a World Cup race before Christmas was something I was not able to imagine in October. I said after Thursday’s 15-kilometer freestyle that I would worry about (my chances at) the Olympics if I didn’t feel better in the 30-kilometer than how I did in the 15-kilometer race.

— Now I don’t need to worry as much anymore. This should look very good by the Olympics after a few more weeks with training, says Fredriksson.
