The US Sprinters continued their recent European success today in the World Cup classic sprint race in Oberstdorf, Germany. Andy Newell finished 4th, Torin Koos 11th.

In the qualifying prelim, Koos was second and Newell fourth.

Newell recovered from a bad start in his semifinal heat to advance all the way to the A Final where he went up against Odd-Bjorn Hjelmeset, Johan Kjoelstad (NOR) and sprint world champion Vassilli Rotchev (RUS). Newell went out hard in the A Final along with Kjoelstad, but began to run out of steam on the second hill. Hjelmeset went by and took the win, followed by Kjoelstad. Newell just missed out on his first World Cup podium in a photo finish with Rotchev.

Koos lost out to Hjelmeset and Jens Arne Svartedal in his quarterfinal.

Canadian results: Devon Kershaw 32nd, Chris Jeffries 42nd, Sean Crooks 44th, Phil Widmer 53rd.
