Robert Redford’s Sundance Nordic Center in The Timpanogos Mountain outside Heber City, Utah hosted the third race in the Wasatch Citizen series last Saturday. The actor himself was nowhere to be seen, but tons of snow, a very challenging 5-kilometer course that includes a two kilometer solid climb and some fast downhills with both S and U turns made for a great classic race.

Sundance Nordic Center is located roughly 20 minutes from Heber City, Utah. You have to drive 2 miles up above the Alpine area entrance to get to the small, but very nice Nordic Center. Mount Timpanogos is towering above the trails and makes for a beautiful backdrop. I’m not sure about the exact altitude, but it felt like 7000+ feet or 2100 meters.

This year’s race was 10-kilometer classic (5-k classic for the 60+ category) .The temperature at the race was around 32 Fahrenheit (O Celsius). The snow was starting to warm up which caused slick skis for a number of the competitors.
