Summer Ski Trip To Finland

July 6-20, 2006, 9th annual Summer On Snow camp with the Vermont Academy Ski Team , Vuokatti, Finland

Ski and train two weeks focusing on technique on a 2.5km artificial snow in Vuokatti's famous x-c ski tunnel with the best x-c skiers from all over the world. Ski 15 sessions: that means close to 400km of ski training at the best summer ski training site in the world. In the tunnel, perfect 24 degree temperature, blue hard wax skiing condition; outside state of the art strength and dryland exercise facilities, rollerski loops, sauna, and of course one of the famous lakes of Finland right outside the hotel door. The tunnel allows skiers to ski during the summer without going to high altitude glaciers. Enjoy two weeks of unforgettable accommodations at Olympic Training Center in Vuokatti, Finland and witness the prominence of Nordic skiing in Finnish culture. Ski with World Cup skiers in the tunnel. Roller ski on one of the best roller ski trails in the world. Run and skibound on trails covered with sawdust to minimize the bounding effect on the knees of skiers. Strength train at the state of the art cross country ski specific equipped weight room. This is an experience each of the skiers will not forget! Finally, experience the beauty of Northern European culture during the day trip to Helsinki, the capital of Finland.

Alexei Sotskov: VA Nordic Head coach, is a former member of the USSR Nordic combined team.
Formerly, Alexei was the head coach at the Leningrad School of Superior Athletic Performance in Russia. From 1992 to 2002 Alexei has been the Gunstock Nordic Association head coach.
The GNA program has become very successful under Alexei’s guidance. Two of his athletes won Junior World Champion titles in 1999. Numerous GNA skiers have won US Junior National Championships as Nordic Combined or x-c skiers.
Since 2002 Alexei Sotskov has been a Director of Sports on Snow and Head Nordic Coach for the Vermont Academy. Vermont Academy men's X-C Ski team has won 2004, 05, and 06 Lakes region Prep School League Championship titles, as well as three consecutive New England Prep School Athletic Council Championship titles. Several VA Ski team members had great results at the 2004, 05 and 06 US Chevy Track National Championships, and two VA skiers were All-Americans at the 2005 and 2006 Junior Olympics. VA skiers have captured numerous wins at both NENSA Eastern Cup races and Eastern High School Championships.
This year will be the 9th year of the Summer Ski Trip to Europe program under Alexei’s leadership.
