Andresen Says He Needs To Lose Weight
FasterSkier · June 23, 2006
A little too big
– Optimal for my performance in ski racing is to race at a certain weight. I have to lose a few kilo before I reach that weight, says Andresen
He thinks that strength training is the reason his weight is above what he believes is optimal.
— I’m going to make some changes in my training, but I will also reduce my weight says the 28-year old.
No more max strength
Andresen has decided to stop doing max strength and other strength related training that he feels has made his muscles heavy.
– I’m trying to “forget†max strength. Instead I will do more ski specific drills and core strength says, Andresen.
Andresen doesn’t want to remain among the second best skiers. He is on his own and wants to get to the podium. A few kilos lighter.
Editor’s note: Not sure if Andresen is correct when he claims that max strength adds weight if max strength is defined as 3-5 sets of a few reps, such as 2-6 repetitions with fast and powerful motions.
This is the first article in a short series. Other top skiers have varying views on optimal weight (size vs. strength). Several athletes will comment on weight reduction on FasterSkier.com in the next few days.
