Andy Hunter continued a tradition of cross country skiers winning the grueling Bird Ridge Hill Climb race on Sunday in Anchorage, Alaska. Hunter led a procession of 5 skiers in the top 6 places. Recent winners of this race have included skiers like Trond Flagstad, Frode Lillefjell, and Tobias Schwoerer.

Labeling Andy Hunter and Andy Liebner race rookies in Sunday morning's Bob Spurr Memorial Hill Climb was accurate but misleading.
Sure, both competed in the lung-busting, quadriceps-killing march up Bird Ridge for the first time, and Liebner's entry was his first in any mountain running race.
Yet both are also elite nordic skiers. And nordic types aren't neophytes in this uphill-only race as evidenced by the performances of Hunter and Liebner and race history.
