Thoughts on racing in Japan for the World Champs?
Any time we can get the Euros out of their comfort zone is an advantage for us so I am glad the Championships are in Japan. My plan is to peak at the World Championships and to make it the focal point of my 06-07 season.
Summer Training – how's it going?
My training has gone very well so far and I feel that I am exactly where I
want to be right now.
Anything new over last year?
I am training less intensity and more volume. I have also removed almost all weight room work from my routine as it was adding unwanted muscle bulk.
Biggest training focus for this year?
My biggest focus is to come into the season rested and ready for
five months of racing. I may have to race my way into shape early on but I think that will pay off later in the year.
Will you do any races over the summer? Do you think this is good for your development or not?
I will do a couple of running races, one triathlon, and a couple of
bike criteriums. I think it’s important to stay in touch with racing. But it is also just as important not to race too much.
Words of wisdom for the kiddies reading this?
Get out the door and train more. Most juniors I know think they train hard but don't even come [close] to optimum training.
Kris, did you have any notable springtime vacation?
I recently went on a four day vacation in Puerto Rico with my girlfriend. It was a welcome break from normal life and it was gorgeous down there. We sat on the beach and got sunburned all day. It was great.
Thanks Kris, we’ll be following you this year.
