Immediately after sitting down in my chair, terrified to look up from the grey tabletop at the guy sitting across from me, whose signed poster I still had up on my wall at home, Pete Vordenburg got down to business. This camp was about team building. About, not only getting to know your teammates, but about learning to trust them, respect them and support them. A question was posed about what qualities made up a perfect teammate. Among the list were adjectives like open-minded, communicative, dedicated, positive, and many others. The problem was not in coming up with ideas, but in keeping the list at a mere ten. We had a meeting every night that week where we discussed how we were going to create this kind of perfect environment. It is going to take work, time and commitment, but I promise you, we are on the right track to have the tightest team on the circuit, and we will. I am convinced.

So far my summer is amazing, minus the absence of a million lakes and streams to play in. We’ve got fully chlorinated pools, but this morning was the first stream I have swum in yet, and it was cold enough to remind me why so many choose the heated pool. A couple of weeks ago Matt Whitcomb arrived with my car, which he drove across country for me, and within the first mile of picking it up from him, I totaled all 4 bikes that were on the roof, along with the bike rack, and cracked my brand new computer screen. It was an expensive half hour for the new credit card, which seems to be more fragile than the one that held my parents dollars. I am afraid that that, too, might crack.
