Ella Gjœmle beat Marit Bjorgen in Friday's sprint race at the Norwegian Opening races in Beitostolen. But Bjorgen bounced back to win both distance races on Saturday and Sunday.

In the sprint, Ella Gjœmle won ahead of Marit Bjœrgen and junior skier Astrid Jacobsen.

– It irritates me that I’m so slow in the start phase. I have always been a slow starter, especially in classic, but I was heavier and slower than normal, said Marit Bjorgen after being blown away by Gjomle in the start and never caught up.

“ Only” second place for Bjorgen this time

On Saturday, Bjœrgen bounced back with a victory, but she had to work hard to stay ahead of “retired” Hilde G Pedersen.

Bjœrgen was fastest in the 5 km freestyle race at Beitostolen. She was 3 seconds ahead of “forever young” Hilde G Pedersen. Kristin Mürer Stemland was third, 8 seconds out.
