<p>Newell topped the list after the qualification run, finishing 0.22 seconds faster than Norwegian veteran Odd-Bjorn Hjelmeset. The Vermont native then raced his way into the six-man A-final, finishing second in his quarterfinal and third in his semi-final. Newell was 5.6 seconds from the win, behind silver-medal winner Mats Larsson of Sweden, bronze medalist Eldar Roenning of Norway, and last year's overall World Cup sprint champion Bjorn Lind of Sweden.</p>
