Tor Arne Hetland To Continue Until 2012

FasterSkier · April 7, 2007

Former Olympic and World sprint champion, Tor Arne Hetland of Norway is dreaming about racing Worlds on his home course in 2011, and he has decided to continue until then. He wants to test himself in long-distance races in 2012.

– The results never lie. It wasn’t as good as I had hoped for, but I was pleased with the start and the end of the season, says Tor Arne Hetland.

Tor Arne Hetland has been Norway’s top sprinter since sprint came on the program in 1996. He captured gold at the 2001 Worlds and at the 2002 Olympics.

But the veteran at age 33 is still hungry, and motivated to continue.

– I’m ready for a new season, says Hetland.

And not only one season. Hetland’s plans goes further than that.

– I want to race Worlds in Holmenkollen, Oslo in 2011. That’s at least the plan, but you never know when you run out of motivation, he says.

Want to ski long-distance races

And his plans doesn’t stop in 2011. He is hoping to ski long-distance races after that.

– I believe I can do well if I increase the training volume a bit. Being able to sprint at the end will be my strength, says Hetland.

Hetland is also boasting about the work Norway’s sprinters did to take back the sprint crown they lost to Sweden the year before.

– The national team succeeded very well with their training aimed to get the crown back. Many skiers made it up among the top skiers this season and that has strengthened the overall level in Norway, says Hetland.
