Juniors look up to you and follow your results and racing. Any words for them?
First, you’ve got to want it that badly. Second, use every day to get one day better. Not two days better everyday for a week or a month or a summer and burn out. But just one day better. Everyday. I also remember what the former US ski team coach Trond Nystad told me – there’s a certain quality to quantity.
There’s a rumor you have been taking classes during the summer at Westminster for your Master’s degree. How’s that coming along?
It’s true. The past two summers I’ve lived in Salt Lake and taken a couple courses, working on my Masters. This summer, however, the streak comes to an end. I just miss the pear orchards and pine trees and water of the Pacific Northwest too much.
Any last words?
I can’t wait for the Canadian World Cups. Hope to see many of you there.

to prepare for and began coaching junior high track. On a couple weekends I’ve gone and checked out Seattle music scene as well.

Last week I got away and headed south to hills outside Santa Barbara. I was in the Santa Ynez Valley, Southern California’s wine country, and spent a week with a couple college friends working on a sunburn, sailing, and a little imbibing.

Torin, any changes for next year’s training?
Honestly, probably not too much. I’ve scheduled in a bit more volume, plus a couple more of the longer Vo2 max type interval type sessions in the summer and fall. Perhaps the biggest difference will be in strength and power development training — I am placing a greater emphasis on upper body strength this season.

<div class=)
