Tierra del Fuego, Argentina is having its best winter since 2002 when conditions were similar this winter’s. These photos were taken on August 15th at two points along the race course for the annual Marchablanca, held outside Ushuaia, Tierra del Fuego, Argentina. The Club Andino Ushuaia started preparing the base for this Sunday´s race last week, and has ramped up grooming for that same race which will take place at the end of this week. Grooming and skiing are always a complicated thing in the region, but for several years now things have slowly improved. These pictures are taken at about 800 feet above sea level on a 21km loop laid out on a series of improvised trail corridors. Skiing in the region has also been excellent at one other ski area closer to downtown Ushuaia, where conditions today were soft due to new snow and some drifts. In general though, it is all joya, or “like a jewel” here in southern Patagonia.
