The Nordic Trails are NOW OPEN at Silver Star Mountain Resort. A fifteen centimeter snowfall in the last 24 hours has turned the Victorian village into a winter wonderland, and Nordic Manager Glenn Bond is thrilled to announce skiing for this weekend on five different trails totaling thirteen kilometers. Trackset trails include Paradise Camp (5 km), the Cross Mountain trail (4 km), Coming Around the Mountain (3 km), and Cabin East (1 km). The alpine snow depth is now at 45 centimetres, with a settled base in the Village of 16 centimeters.
Several Nordic racing teams are taking advantage of early-season training at Silver Star and nearby Sovereign Lakes, including the Quebec biathlon team, the Alaska XC ski team, x-c.com, and INDI 2010.
Silver Star's trail opening kicks off an exciting early season Nordic tradition that includes events such as Norm Crerar's Cross Country Ski Camps (now in their 20th year!), the National Team Banquet and Auction, Manufacturer Demo Days (Nov. 24 and 25) and an exciting “Ski Expo” event at the resort's National Altitude Training Center on Thursday, November 29.
Bring on the snow!
