Nordic Combined: Revision Moves Ahead

New rules for the 2008/2009 season were approved at the Zurich meeting of Nordic Combined Committee. Upon review of all feedback from National Associations, the Committee unanimously supported the changes designed to simplify the competition format to just one jump followed by a 10 km Cross-Country race. The compact rules are expected to benefit the discipline and the Committee sees 2008 as a milestone for Nordic Combined, entering the 2008/09 season with modernized rules and a historical opportunity to return to a leading position inside the world of winter sports. These changes are subject to confirmation by the FIS Council in its Levi (FIN) meeting in November 2008.

At the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships in Liberec 2009, there will be four medals events in Nordic Combined:

1. Mass start 10km Cross-Country race followed by two jumps on the normal hill.
2. One jump on the normal hill followed by a pursuit start 10km Cross-Country.
3. One jump on the large hill each followed by a pursuit start 10km Cross-Country.
4. Team competition – one jump per team member on the large hill, followed by a pursuit start 4x5km relay.
