Jericho VT – The North American Biathlon Series went to Ethan Allen Biathlon Range in Jericho, Vermont for its 5th race series of the year. Similar to the Mt Itasca NorAM Series, conditions continued to be cold with temperatures staying around 0F for Saturday’s Sprint Competition and low teens for Sunday’s Mass Start event. Due to lack of snow, the course followed the roller-ski loop. The staff of the National Guard Biathlon Office worked hard to prepare the range and shovel the loops.
Sam Morse from the National Guard Biathlon program won Saturday’s Sprint Competition by 1 minute with 2 penalties. Jesse Downs from US Army’s World Class Athlete Program (WCAP) finished second despite breaking a pole. For Sunday’s Mass Start Duncan Douglas, racing for the National Guard Biathlon Program, won; Jesse Downs (WCAP) took second; and Bill Bowler (USBA National Development Group) placed third.
For the women Katrina Howe from VT Collegiate Biathlon Program won both the Sprint and Mass Start competitions. Jen Wygant of the USBA National Development Group, racing for the US Army’s World Class Athlete Program, finished second on both days.
