The Nakkertok Nordic Ski Club hosted the Haywood NorAM Eastern Canadian Championships this weekend in Cantley, Quebec.
Graham Nishikawa of Whitehorse and Brook Gosling of FHNC swept both events.
For Nishikawa, this weekend solidified his lead on the NorAm leader board, making him the FIS regional series leader for this period. The women’s leader is Dasha Gaiazova, who did not race this weekend. Both Nishikawa and Gaiazova will get an expense paid trip and start positions at the post Olympic World Cups in Scandinavia.
Saturday’s races were 15/30km classic mass starts. In the men’s race, Nishikawa, David Greer (Whitehorse), and Chris Butler (AWCA) had a tight race for the top spot on the podium. Nishikawa crossed the line first in 1:14:45, with Greer 4.7 seconds behind and Chis Butler 8.6 seconds back.
Brook Gosling won the women’s race by over a minute, letting Catherine Auclair (Club Nordique) and Megan McTavish (XC Ottawa) fight for second. Auclair crossed the line less than one second before McTavish.
Sunday’s races were a 5/10km freestyle.
The men’s podium looked very similar to the day before, as Graham Nishikawa won by 16 seconds over Chris Butler. David Greer took third, 1:18 behind Nishikawa.
Brook Gosling won the women’s race by 49 seconds over Alana Thomas of Hardwood. Megan McTavish was nearly a minute back, in third place.
