The Glacier Nordic Ski Team of Whitefish, Montana is seeking an experienced head coach for its Competition Team. This is an exciting opportunity for someone to take charge of an existing team and potentially build its size and scope.
Overview
The Glacier Nordic Ski Team is part of the Glacier Nordic Club which is a non-profit founded in the early 1980’s with the goal to provide Nordic skiing in downtown Whitefish and provide Nordic ski programs for youth. Its current mission is: to instill a live long love of Nordic skiing.
The Glacier Nordic Ski Team has historically created high level athletes who have successfully competed nationally, in Scandinavia and at the college level. The mission of the GNST is to not only produce outstanding Nordic skiers but also and equally importantly to foster friendship, teamwork and to generate a love of skiing that will endure for life.
Competition Team
GNST is a member of the intermountain Northern Division Team and as such meets with the regional coaching staff and participates in the Intermountain Junior National Qualifier races and fields a team in the Intermountain Division Junior National Team.
Position: Head Coach
Compensation: $10,000 to $11,000 for the season and all travel expenses paid for races and camps. There is also the potential to create local summer and off-season programs. Additional compensation based on two year commitment and performance.
Age Group: 14 to 19 year old J2 to OJ’s, and accomplished 2nd year J3’s. Estimate 8 skiers in this group for 2010 to 2011.
Season: October 15 to March 15
Infrastructure: Local tracks in town as well as ski areas within 15 minutes of town.

Wax room and $2,000 wax budget.
Schedule:
Weekly: A minimum of 4 afternoon workouts, 1 weekend workout and coaching time on the road as required.
Thanksgiving Camp: 8 day camp at West Yellowstone, MT
Early Season Races: Usually local
Intermountain Junior Qualifier Races:
Jan 15 & 16 in Jackson, WY
Jan 28 & 29 in Soldier Hollow, UT
Feb 12 & 13 in Sun Valley, ID
Junior Nationals:
March 4 – 12 in Minneapolis, Minnesota
Or Rendezvous in West Yellowstone, MT
