Fall is in the Air at Silver Star Mountain Resort

Incredible how fast time goes by, school is back in session and snow is dusting the mountain tops. It is time to start planning your ski season and there is no better way to kick off the season than joining the xc camps at Silver Star!

The weather man tells us it will be a great season for skiing as it is time for La Nina to show her stuff which in short means early snow and more snow.

Our trail crew is busy mowing all the Nordic trails to ensure early opening. Last year we opened October 31!

Check out our new video at www.xccamps.ca on the home page to get you in the winter mood.

Sparkling Hill Masters World Cup:

March 3-11, 2011 will make history at Silver Star and Sovereign Lake, with 1200 competitors from around the World going head to head on the trails.

Many of the XC Camp coaches have competed in the Masters World Cup and you can gain insider tips by signing up for the specific Silver Star xc camp www.xccamps.ca geared for people planning to compete in this international event.

Training Tip:

Fall is the time to increase intensity and do more ski specific training.

I recommend using poles (5cms shorter than your classic ski poles) and do hill bounding.  Warm up 10-20 minutes, then find a hill 10-15% in grade and do 4 minutes up at race pace.  Recover / jog down and repeat four times.  This is one of my favorite workouts and is also highly recognized to increase performance. Add this to your routine once a week and enjoy the increased fitness level.

Have FUN!
