Italy’s Simone Paredi secured himself the overall season victory in the men’s standings during the final Roller Skiing World Cup weekend in Greece last weekend. On the ladies’ side, it was Guro Stroem Solli of Norway who won with a decisive margin in the overall standings.
Paredi began his road to victory on Saturday by capturing second place in the mountain race. Paredi’s biggest challenge for overall victory came from Norway’s Ragnar Bragvin Andresen who earned first place in Sunday’s sprint yet Paredi’s fourth place there secured him the overall title by a point. There was nothing but despair for Andressen. “This’s not really fun. I have mixed emotions, being disappointed, happy and bitter all at the same time. I was so close to victory but unfortunately the crystal globe hung too high for me this year,” said Bragvin Andresen. Another candidate for overall victory, Anders Svanebo of Sweden missed his chance to fight for the title as he was invited to train with the Swedish national Cross-Country team.
On the ladies’ side Guro Stroem Soli secured to overall victory by dominating Sunday’s sprint. Russia’s Elena Rodina took the second place overall with Hanna Seppas of Sweden capturing the third spot in the season rankings.
