The kick-off meeting for the FIS Coordination Group of the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships 2015 took place in Falun (SWE) on Monday-Tuesday, 30th-31st August 2010. The main purpose of the first gathering of the main stakeholders for the 4.5-year process – FIS, the Swedish Ski Association, the Falun 2015 organizing committee, city of Falun, region of Dalarna, the TV and marketing rights holder European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and its marketing partner Tridem Sports – was to define the work, roles and responsibilities and lay the framework for the processes and procedures in planning the biggest sports event in Sweden over the next five years.

“For us it was really important to have this first meeting as soon as possible after the election keep the momentum flowing,” commented Sarah Lewis, FIS Secretary General. “Falun 2015 led by Sven van Holst, who was just appointed to head the local organization, has hit the ground running. There is a great spirit and wide-spread support for the 2015 championships in Falun and the region of Dalarna, contributing to the start of the work in a very positive atmosphere.”

With the test event timetable beginning in the 2012/2013 season, there is an intensive schedule ahead given the substantial infrastructure development plans the city has for the Lugnet arena to upgrade the facility for the championships and other major international events.
