The Sun Valley Ski Education Foundation (SVSEF) and “Nordic Town USA” (Ketchum/Sun Valley) are hosting international teams from Norway, Sweden, Japan, Canada as well as the best US Cross Country Ski Racers in an elite Cross Country race series from March 26th – April 2nd, 2011.
Both the 30 and 50 km National Championship and the US Ski Association (USSA) SuperTour Finals will be contested on the trails at Lake Creek and Dollar Mountain.
Elite cross country ski racers from all over the world will descend on Sun Valley, ID to compete in the final major race series of the 2011 race season. Expected attendees include top teams from Europe and Asia as well as the entire US Cross Country Ski Team and several members of the Canadian Team. The races will include a 30 & 50 km National Championship competition as well as the 4-race SuperTour Finals, the culmination of the “SuperTour”, the top domestic race series in North America.
The competition schedule is as follows:
March 26th- Men’s 50k CL National Championship, 25k CL Junior Boys Race
March 27th- Women’s 30k CL National Championship, 15k CL Junior Girls Race
Super Tour Finals Mini-Tour:
March 29th – 3k SK Prologue
March 30th – 10/15k CL Mass, 5km J2’s
April 1st- Sprint CL
April 2nd- 5k Hill Climb SK
The prize money for this entire series is huge with $19,800 being awarded over the 6 days of racing. With 2 feet of snow still covering the entire Lake Creek Trail System and nighttime temperatures expected to dip into the teens from now until the series kicks off, the skiing and conditions should be ideal.
